oh, poor old comic sans. funnily enough i've been thinking about it a bit lately and i've come to the conclusion that it's not that it's such a bad typeface - it's just poorly used. and i understand why it's so popular - it's friendly and fairly easy to read and crucially it's free. so you can't really blame people for that. a little educating by the designers of the world would sort it all out.

i kind of see it as the fleece of the typographic world. nobody looks stylish in a fleece, but i guess it's practical and comfortable clothing. but designed for walking on mountains surely, not for social occasions... but people still wear them for any situation.

it's interesting to hear the truth about comic sans from vincent connare, the guy who designed it. i feel for the guy, he was just doing his job. (although why he thinks it acceptable to centre align a whole webpage of text is anyone's guess).

anyway. watch this space for the forthcoming 'say no to fleeces' campaign. in keeping with the campaign's ideals i'll be having the slogan printed on a harris tweed hunting jacket.
