the future of the great british holiday?

this was an exciting job to work on. i’d heard that there were businesses gambling on the probability that sooner or later a heavy tax will be placed on airline fuel, thereby putting an end to cheap foreign holidays and in return revitalising the british seaside.
one such company contacted us having seen the work we’ve been doing in rebranding scarborough, whitby & filey. they’ve quietly been buying up the small donkey ride businesses around the country and have formed a potentially massive franchise operation. it’ll work in much the same way as pizza hut or mcdonalds do – a consistent style wherever you go but run locally.
of course, you can’t do this with the same old donkey rides as the money just isn’t in it, but these folks have some big ideas. a key factor is new harnesses with mobile phone and i-pod pockets – these link direct to built-in speakers so you can listen to mp3s whilst you ride, they’re also gradually phasing in spanish donkeys that can run a lot faster that the english variety to create a more exciting experience. they reckon that with these innovations people will be happy to pay between £10-£15 per ride. i think this approach will really help places like scarborough create a tourist trade fit for the future.
so our task has been to give donkey rides an exciting new image. we’ve gone for bold colours, funky type and some cheeky headlines. the new company are launching their rides today – sunday april 1st – on beaches in scarborough, skegness and great yarmouth.
